Sandro Tonali wants Newcastle United stay amid Serie A links

Sandro Tonali is reportedly determined to remain at Newcastle United beyond the summer transfer window amid his links with Serie A clubs and Manchester City.

According to a report by the Daily Telegraph, Serie A clubs are keen on signing Sandro Tonali in the summer transfer window. In addition, the Newcastle United midfielder is a target for Manchester City. However, the Italian international is ready to remain at the Tyneside club for the long run as he is happy and settled at St. James’ Park.

Sandro Tonali and his Newcastle United journey so far

Sandro Tonali has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since returning from a betting ban this season. The Lodi native has been with the Magpies for nearly two years, arriving from AC Milan in a deal worth £55 million in July 2023. However, he spent several months on the sidelines after breaching anti-betting regulations.

However, the 24-year-old has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for Newcastle United whenever he has been fit and available. Tonali has turned out over 50 times thus far for the Tyneside outfit while chipping in with six goals and three assists.

Meanwhile, recent reports have painted a contradictory picture of his mindset, with some claiming he is eager to return to Serie A in the summer transfer window amid his links with Juventus and other clubs. In addition, the Italian international is a target for Manchester City.

A man in demand

Manchester City’s interest in Sandro Tonali makes sense. The Citizens are keen on reinforcing their midfield unit in the summer transfer window as they prepare for life after Kevin De Bruyne. In addition, Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, and Mateo Kovacic face an uncertain future at the Etihad. So, the Newcastle United midfielder is a viable target for Manchester City.

As for Juventus, Douglas Luiz has struggled to make his mark since arriving from Aston Villa last summer. So, the Serie A giants have set their sights on Tonali as they look to bolster their midfield unit in the summer transfer window. However, the former AC Milan midfielder wants to remain at Newcastle United for the long run.

The 24-year-old Italian international is happy at St. James’ Park and “loves playing for Howe”. So, Manchester City and Juventus must look elsewhere for a new midfielder, with the possibility of signing Tonali from Newcastle United bleak.
