According to a report by TEAMtalk, Arthur Avom is the subject of interest from Chelsea. Brighton & Hove Albion are also keen on signing the FC Lorient midfielder, who has drawn comparisons to Yaya Toure with his exploits for the Ligue 2 club. The Seagulls are best placed to sign the 20-year-old midfield prospect, although Chelsea may hijack the move in the summer transfer window.
Arthur Avom has established himself as one of the best young prospects plying their trade in France since breaking into the first-team squad at FC Lorient. A native of Yaounde, the African midfielder spent his formative years in Cameroon and arrived in Europe when he joined FC Lorient in August 2023.
The 20-year-old has enjoyed his breakthrough at FC Lorient this season, amassing nearly 2,500 minutes of game time across 32 appearances in all competitions while chipping in with two goals and five assists. Meanwhile, Avom’s exploits have helped him draw comparisons to Yaya Toure due to a similarity to the former Ivory Coast international’s playing style.
The Cameroonian midfielder’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Premier League outfits, in particular, are keen on signing the FC Lorient whizkid, with Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Chelsea’s interest in Arthur Avom is understandable. The Blues have been active in the market for the brightest young prospects in the last few years. So, it is hardly surprising that they have set their sights on a player who has drawn comparisons to Yaya Toure with his exploits for FC Lorient. However, Chelsea may be behind Brighton in the chase, although they are mulling over a hijack.
On the other hand, Brighton & Hove Albion have a fantastic record of unearthing some of the best young prospects before developing them and selling them for considerable sums. So, it is hardly surprising that the FC Lorient whizkid has emerged as a target for the Premier League.
Chelsea and Brighton also face stiff competition from West Ham United for the 20-year-old Cameroonian midfielder. So, it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the youngster amid his links with Premier League clubs.
