West Bromwich Albion eyeing Ryan Mason swoop, face obstacle

EFL Championship outfit West Bromwich Albion will reportedly look to appoint 33-year-old English coach Ryan Mason as the club’s next manager.

According to a report by The Sun, Ryan Mason is the subject of interest from West Bromwich Albion. The EFL Championship club will appoint a new manager this summer as they start laying down the groundwork for the 2025/26 season. So, the 33-year-old Tottenham Hotspur coach has emerged as a target for the Baggies.

Ryan Mason and his time in football so far

Ryan Mason has made massive strides in the managerial world since prematurely calling time on his promising playing career. A native of London, the Englishman spent his formative years with Tottenham Hotspur and graduated from the youth division at the North London club. However, while he showed promising signs during his spell with Tottenham’s first team, he could not become a regular.

The 33-year-old joined Hull City and spent two years with the Tigers before his career ended prematurely due to a scary head injury. Mason was not even 30 when he called time on his career, and he returned to Tottenham to hone his coaching skills. He has also taken charge of the senior side, overseeing 13 games across two stints, winning and losing six games (D1).

The English tactician has been one of the assistant coaches in Ange Postecoglou’s staff since the Australian manager took over at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium nearly two years ago. Meanwhile, Mason’s stock in the managerial market has soared, with West Bromwich Albion among his prospective suitors this summer.

Managerial adventure beckons?

With Ange Postecoglou facing an uncertain future at Tottenham Hotspur, Ryan Mason will likely leave the North London club’s senior side unless the Australian’s replacement retains him in the new staff. So, embarking on a managerial career away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium may be sensible.

West Bromwich Albion will be eager to appoint a new manager as quickly as possible as they plan for the 2025/26 season. So, Mason has emerged as a viable target for the EFL Championship club. However, the Baggies have a stumbling block to overcome to land the 33-year-old English coach.

With Tottenham likely to reach the UEFA Europa League final, Mason will unlikely leave Tottenham before this month’s final week. So, West Bromwich Albion might have to bide time unless the EFL Championship club can identify alternatives.
