Liverpool eyeing Dodo as Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement

Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of Fiorentina full-back Dodo as they look for an ideal Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement.

Liverpool have started planning for life without Trent Alexander-Arnold as he is set to part ways with the club this summer. The Merseyside club’s vice-captain confirmed his departure on Monday, and the club have already been working to bring in a replacement.

According to a report from Empire of the Kop, the Reds have their eyes set on Dodo, who has been a consistent performer for Fiorentina in recent seasons. The Brazilian defender could prove to be a valuable addition to Arne Slot’s team.

Dodo joined the Serie A club in the summer of 2022, and he has only gone from strength to strength since. He has been an integral part of their first team, featuring in 42 matches this season. The 26-year-old has even bagged six assists.

While the South American full-back prefers playing as a full-back, he is equally effective as a wing-back. His ability to contribute on both ends of the pitch has caught the attention of Liverpool, who are looking for more quality and depth on the right flank.

Liverpool’s pursuit of a new full-back

Trent Alexander-Arnold was one of their mainstays and with his departure now certain, they do need to think about having enough quality in the right-back position. They already have Conor Bradley in their ranks, and he could certainly be a great long-term replacement.

But Slot wants to have another experienced option in that position and sporting director Richard Hughes is pushing to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen. Liverpool are willing to table an offer worth €35-€40 million.

However, signing him won’t be that easy, as there are other top clubs who are pushing for his signature and the German club will look to make the most out of it. In case they fail to strike a deal for the Dutch full-back, Hughes has identified Dodo as an ideal alternative.

While his contract at Fiorentina runs until the summer of 2027, he could still prove to be a much cheaper option, and signing him might not be that difficult. The 26-year-old has all the qualities that Slot wants in his right-back, and he can certainly compete with Bradley for a place in the XI. Liverpool also have other options on their radar. As a result, it will be interesting to see who they go after.
