Barcelona will likely go into the 2025-26 La Liga season as defending champions, and their campaign will be different compared to the other 19 teams in the division – at least for a small while.
During next season, Barcelona will make their eagerly-anticipated return to the Spotify Camp Nou, which has been undergoing construction work since June 2023. Club bosses had hoped to be back at the iconic stadium by now, but due to delays, it has not been possible.
At this stage, the club is hoping that they will be able to play their first match back at the arena in September, but in order to avoid playing any home fixtures away from the Spotify Camp Nou, they have submitted an official request to La Liga for their opening three matches of the 2025-26 season to be away, as reported by Cadena SER (via Sport).
The return to the Spotify Camp Nou will be very welcome for Barcelona, especially from a financial standpoint. They have lost significant matchday revenue during their time at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic due to a number of supporters deciding against attending matches at the club’s temporary home.
Despite the fact that the Spotify Camp Nou will have a reduced attendance upon Barcelona’s return, the club will still be able to make a lot more money on matchdays. And in turn, this will help to ease their financial problems, which are still very much present going into this summer’s transfer window.
There is a lot of excitement within Barcelona at the return to the Spotify Camp Nou, and if it is September, it means that the first team only has one more match at the Estadi Olimpic, that being this weekend’s clash against Villarreal. Montjuic has served the club well from a footballing standpoint, but it will soon be in the rear-view mirror.
