According to Mundo Deportivo via SportWitness, Luis Diaz has no intentions of renewing his contract at Liverpool. The Colombian international remains open to a move away this summer amidst interest from Barcelona.
Diaz joined the Merseyside club at the start of 2022 from FC Porto. He has been a key figure in the team since the start. In the 2024/25 season, he was involved in a total of 50 matches and ended up contributing towards 25 goals (17 goals, 8 assists).
He had a very important role under Arne Slot and the Dutch manager would love to have him at his disposal next season as well. But that can’t be guaranteed despite his current deal running until the summer of 2027.
Diaz is amongst the lowest-paid players in the squad and reports earlier suggested that his agents were pushing to get him a new deal with improved terms. But in recent weeks, the 28-year-old winger has been linked with a move away from the club.
While the Reds seem keen on renewing his contract and even offered him a two-year extension with an improved salary, he has no intentions of penning a new deal at this stage. The talks regarding any new deal have been put on hold for now.
Barcelona are the ones who have been constantly linked with the Colombian international. The Catalan giants want more quality on the left flank and they consider him an ideal fit for their project. He will not only bolster the left flank, the 28-year-old could even provide cover for 36-year-old Robert Lewandowski.
Deco is a massive admirer of Diaz and has made him one of his priority targets for the summer. But it remains unclear whether they will be able to afford to meet Liverpool’s asking price of around €70-80 million.
Meanwhile, the player is not looking to renew his deal at the Merseyside club as long as the Barcelona dream is alive. He wants to take the next step in his career and the Spanish club is just the ideal destination for him.
The Reds are looking to sign Florian Wirtz in a big-money move and a potential Diaz departure could actually help fund that move. However, they will only sell the Colombian international on their terms.
