Chelsea submit enquiry for Viktor Gyokeres

Chelsea will reportedly compete with Arsenal and Liverpool to sign 26-year-old Swedish international Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Record, as relayed by Sport Witness, Viktor Gyokeres is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues have submitted an enquiry over a possible move for the Sporting CP goal machine, who will cost around €60-65 million in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Swedish striker is also a target for Arsenal and Liverpool.

Viktor Gyokeres and his rise

Viktor Gyokeres has established himself as one of the most prolific strikers in the world since joining Sporting CP from Coventry City in July 2023. The Swede hit the ground running at the Primeira Liga giants and has been instrumental in their success in the last two seasons.

The 26-year-old striker has amassed 54 goals and 13 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions, with his output helping Sporting CP retain the Primeira Liga title. Meanwhile, Gyokeres has piqued the attention of several high-profile Premier League clubs with his exploits, with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

A man in demand

Recent reports have claimed that Arsenal recently presented an offer to sign the Swedish striker in the summer transfer window. The North London club’s interest in the Sporting CP talisman is understandable, considering Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus have not been prolific enough in the final third. So, Gyokeres has emerged as a viable target for Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s interest in Viktor Gyokeres is perplexing. The Blues are closing in on signing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. In addition, Enzo Maresca has two other strikers in his squad. So, it is unclear how Chelsea will utilise all options if they also land Gyokeres apart from Delap. Nevertheless, they have submitted an enquiry over a possible move for the Sporting CP star.

As for Liverpool, Darwin Nunez faces an uncertain future at Anfield after struggling to make his mark at the Merseyside club. In addition, Diogo Jota’s fitness issues make him a liability for Liverpool. So, the Reds need a prolific striker, with Gyokeres emerging as a viable target.

Chelsea’s latest move means Arsenal, Liverpool, and Gyokeres’s other suitors must step up to beat the West London club to his signature. Meanwhile, Sporting CP will demand around €60-65 million to part ways with the 26-year-old Swedish international instead of holding out for his release clause of €100 million.
