Fourth-tier side Girondins de Bordeaux has announced that Andy Carroll (36) has left the club. The former Newcastle United, Liverpool and West Ham centre-forward joined Bordeaux in September 2024 from Ligue 2 side Amiens. The English striker went on to log 11 goals and two assists with Bordeaux. Courtesy of his experience and dedication, Carroll leaves Bordeaux as a valued member of the squad. “He is an exceptional and generous personality that the Club’s fans and employees have enjoyed working alongside”, reads Bordeaux’s statement.

According to Bordeaux, Carroll has opted to terminate his Bordeaux contract because he wants to get closer to his children, a decision Bordeaux has fully accepted and understood. Sud-Ouest reports that Carroll has agreed to an ultra-low 1,614 € monthly salary. But his wages would have significantly risen to €13,000 had he agreed to spend a second consecutive season in Bordeaux, a situation the club would have struggled with due to their critical financial situation.
