A leading member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has this week put pen to paper on a new contract with the club.
The player in question? Wojciech Szczęsny.
Goalkeeper Szczęsny of course linked up with Barcelona late in 2024, following the long-term injury suffered by Blaugrana no.1 Marc-André ter Stegen.
And the 35-year-old wasted little time in making his presence felt, usurping Iñaki Peña as the new first-choice between the posts in Hansi Flick’s squad, en route to playing a central role in the club’s domestic treble.
Szczęsny stepped out of retirement to link up with his new club, after being released by Juventus last summer.
So impressive were his performances, though, that the Camp Nou brass had long forwarded a contract renewal offer to the Pole.
And as alluded to above, early this week, confirmation of Szczęsny’s commitment to as much has been provided.
As per a statement across Barcelona’s website and social media platforms:
‘FC Barcelona and the player Wojciech Szczęsny have reached an agreement for the extension his contract which will tie him to the Club until 30 June 2027.’
