Brighton & Hove Albion unwilling to sell Yankuba Minteh amid Liverpool links

Arne Slot’s Liverpool have received a massive setback in their pursuit of Brighton & Hove Albion attacking sensation Yankuba Minteh.

Yankuba Minteh’s sensational performances for Brighton & Hove Albion have not gone unnoticed. Multiple top clubs are keen on prising him away, and Liverpool are one of them. However, according to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, the Seagulls have no intentions of selling him anytime soon.

Minteh joined Brighton & Hove Albion from Newcastle United in the summer of 2024, and he has only gone from strength to strength since. The young winger had an impressive debut campaign as he finished with 12 goal contributions in his 37 outings across competitions.

Yankuba Minteh has started all ten of their league games this season. While the 21-year-old only has one goal and three assists, his overall game has been quite impressive and top clubs have taken note of his performances.

Liverpool are keen on Yankuba Minteh

Liverpool are one of the clubs that are interested in his services, and if reports are to be believed, they are willing to break the bank for the Gambian international, who could be worth as much as £100 million.

The Merseyside club consider Yankuba Minteh an ideal long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian winger’s contract at Anfield runs until 2027, but he could end up parting ways next summer. Even if he does continue at the club for another season, the Reds want to be prepared for his potential departure.

The Premier League champions consider Minteh a perfect fit for their project. While he can feature on either flank, he certainly prefers playing on the right. While Liverpool are keen on his signature, it will struggle to strike a deal with Brighton.

The Seagulls have no intentions of sanctioning his departure anytime soon, as the player remains happy at the Amex and is tied to a long-term deal. While reports suggest a potential £100 million price tag, Brighton are likely to demand £60-70 million if the interest in him continues to grow.

Brighton & Hove Albion’s stance on Minteh’s future

While speaking about Yankuba Minteh’s future, O’Rourke said, “I think it would be very hard to get him out of Brighton at the moment, in all honestly. He’s been a big player for Brighton since Newcastle were forced to sell him because of PSR rules, and Brighton have found themselves a very good player.

“He’s on a long-term contract there until 2029, and we know what Brighton are like. They find these players, develop them and move them on for huge fees. They spent 30 million on Minteh last summer. So to even consider selling him, you’re looking well in excess of that. They’re probably looking around 60 to 70 million pounds.

“But yeah, Brighton aren’t thinking about that right now. They want to keep hold of Minteh. It’s no surprise that maybe Liverpool are looking at him, but I don’t think anything is imminent on this, Brighton want to keep hold of him and it seems the player is happy.”

While Brighton could easily make a significant profit from Yankuba Minteh’s sale, given the widespread interest in his services, they have no intention of doing so. The Seagulls view him as an integral part of their long-term plans and want to keep him at the club for a few more years. Liverpool will need to do considerable work behind the scenes if they hope to strike a deal anytime soon.
