Crystal Palace, West Ham United vying for Tyler Morton

Crystal Palace and West Ham United are reportedly keen on signing 23-year-old English midfielder Tyler Morton from Ligue 1 club Lyon in the winter transfer window.

According to an update by Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Tyler Morton may be on his way back to the Premier League less than six months after leaving Liverpool to join Lyon. The 23-year-old midfielder faces an uncertain future at the Ligue 1 club, and a return to the English top flight is likelier than moving to any other league.

Crystal Palace and West Ham United are among the prospective suitors vying for Morton’s signature heading into the winter transfer window, with Ajax and Sporting CP also keen on securing the Lyon midfielder’s services. Meanwhile, the Ligue 1 outfit will demand around €20 million to part ways with the Englishman.

Tyler Morton and his predicament

Tyler Morton has made gradual progress since joining Lyon from Liverpool in the summer transfer window. The Wallasey native was among the most promising midfielders in the Premier League after he broke into the first-team squad at the Merseyside club. However, the 23-year-old could not establish a foothold in the senior setup at Anfield.

Meanwhile, the English midfield prospect has started every Ligue 1 game for which he has been available since joining Lyon from Liverpool. Morton has chipped in with one goal and one assist in 15 appearances across all competitions this term. However, Ekrem Konur has suggested that he faces an uncertain future at the Ligue 1 club, with Crystal Palace and West Ham United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

London calling?

West Ham United wanted to sign Tyler Morton in the summer transfer window before Lyon won the race for his signature. The continued interest makes sense, as Guido Rodriguez and James Ward-Prowse will likely depart from the London Stadium in the coming weeks. So, West Ham must sign a new midfielder, with Morton emerging as a viable target.

As for Crystal Palace, Adam Wharton’s long-term future at the South London club is uncertain amid his links with European bigwigs. Additionally, Jefferson Lerma is on the wrong side of 30. So, Crystal Palace can do with a new midfielder, with Morton being an option worth considering.

While Ajax and Sporting CP are also interested in the 23-year-old Englishman, a return to the Premier League is likely for the Lyon midfielder. Meanwhile, the Ligue 1 outfit will demand around €20 million to part ways with Morton. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the former Liverpool prospect.
