Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Tottenham rival Manchester United in Ruben Neves chase

Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur will compete with Manchester United to sign 28-year-old Portuguese international Ruben Neves from Al-Hilal.

According to an update by Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Aston Villa, Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Ruben Neves. Several other bigwigs are also keen on signing the 28-year-old Al-Hilal midfielder, who wants to return to Europe and is planning to leave Al-Hilal next year.

Ruben Neves and his time in the Saudi Pro League

Ruben Neves has been one of the best players in the Saudi Pro League since completing a shock move to Al-Hilal from Wolverhampton Wanderers in July 2023. The 28-year-old has enjoyed tremendous success at Al-Hilal, winning nearly half a dozen trophies, including the Saudi Pro League title with the club.

The Portuguese international has made over 100 appearances thus far for Al-Hilal while chipping in with 12 goals and 25 assists. Meanwhile, Neves’s exploits for the Saudi Pro League club have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Premier League outfits, in particular, are keen on signing the player, with Aston Villa, Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

A man in demand

Aston Villa will dip into the market for a midfielder next year, as Unai Emery wants more options in the middle of the park. Several candidates, including James Garner, have thus emerged on Aston Villa’s radar, with Neves also a viable target. As for Newcastle United, Joelinton’s long-term future at St. James’ Park is uncertain.

So, Newcastle United must dip into the market for a midfielder, with Neves an option worth considering. Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in Ruben Neves is understandable. The Red Devils are keen on reinforcing their midfield unit next year, as Casemiro is on the wrong side of 30. Additionally, Manuel Ugarte has failed to make their mark since joining Manchester United.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, Yves Bissouma has no future at the North London club, as he has run afoul of Thomas Frank. So, a winter departure is on the cards for the Malian international, with Neves emerging as a viable candidate to replace the former Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder.

Apart from these four clubs, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, Inter Milan, and West Ham United are also keen on signing Neves. The 28-year-old Portuguese international is ready to leave Al-Hilal and move to Europe. Meanwhile, recent reports have claimed that the player wants to return to the Premier League. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Neves.
