Tottenham handed boost in Takefusa Kubo transfer race

Real Sociedad might be ready to sell Takefusa Kubo to balance their finances, which could boost Tottenham’s hopes ahead of January.

According to COPE Gipuzkoa via Sport Witness, Takefusa Kubo could be sold by Real Sociedad in January to balance their finances. Tottenham Hotspur could be given hope in the race for the attacker, with a €60 million release clause hanging over the Japanese international.

Thomas Frank will want Tottenham to stay alert to the prospect of signing attackers ahead of the January window. Back in the summer, the north Londoners did bring a few attacking players, but they did feel the window was left incomplete in some regard.

Spurs have been linked with strikers, although Frank is leaning towards bringing in a wide attacker as his centre-forward options are well stacked at this moment. There have been some key links across media reports, with Tottenham also linked with Takefusa Kubo.

Kubo could reportedly be open to the idea of joining Tottenham, as much will depend on Real Sociedad’s stance on the Japanese attacker. The Spanish side are not particularly flush with cash, which ceases concerns over their finances, as long as an interested team comes up with the player’s €60 million release clause.

The report states that Real Sociedad might be ready to cash in on the attacker in a bid to balance their finances in January. Tottenham are not the only team in the mix as the likes of Aston Villa have also looked at the €60 million-rated La Liga attacker, although Spurs are now seen as the front-runners.

Tottenham could pay up for Takefusa Kubo

Tottenham might not see the €60 million-rated La Liga attacker’s price tag as a big issue ahead of the January window. The north Londoners were reportedly keen on the Japanese attacker back in the summer and did not show any signs of issues about paying his release clause then.

Sociedad are believed to be holding out for the release clause to be paid in January, or else they may delay a transfer until the summer. Real Madrid’s sell-on clause in the attacker’s contract means, whatever profit Real Sociedad makes will go back to the Capital giants as part of the deal, which may even dampen their motivation to sell Kubo on the cheap.
