According to a report by Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge, AS Roma have failed with a bid to sign out-of-favour Tottenham Hotspur defender Radu Dragusin in the winter transfer window.
Tottenham paid €30 million to sign Dragusin from Genoa, and he has struggled for regular opportunities at the North London club. The 23-year-old has recently returned from a long-term injury, and it will be interesting to see if he can establish himself as an important player for the club.
Dragusin is behind Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven in the pecking order. It would be ideal for the Romanian defender to leave the club in search of regular playing time. However, Tottenham have turned down the offer to send him out on loan this month. It remains to be seen whether AS Roma are prepared to come back with an improved offer to convince the North London club.
The prospect of returning to Italy could be exciting for the defender. Dragusin played his best football with Genoa in Italy, and returning to his comfort zone could bring out the best in him. He will be desperate to get back to his best once again. He needs regular football in order to regain his form and confidence.
Spurs are unlikely to be able to provide him with that opportunity, and it would make sense for the player to move on. The youngster is a young player with a lot of potential, and he will look to establish himself as a key player for AS Roma or any other club. For now, leaving Tottenham would be ideal for him, even if it is on a temporary deal.
He could play regularly in the second half of the season and return next season as a better player. If the player manages to impress during his loan, Tottenham might be able to sell him for a reasonable amount of money at the end of the season.
Keeping Dragusin at the club against his wishes does not make much sense. Meanwhile, AS Roma need to tighten up at the back if they want to do well during the second half of the season. Signing a quality central defender would be ideal for them.
