Inter Happy with Chivu, Setting the Stage for Renewal

Regardless of whether the season will end with one or more titles, Inter have won the gamble they made with Christian Chivu, and the gaffer will stay at the helm in the future as well. He inked a short-term deal last summer. He is tied to the team until the end of next season.

According to TuttoSport, the extension is in the works and is basically already a fait accompli. The boss will have at least a year added to his contract. His predecessor Simone Inzaghi always avoided lengthy deals, penning three short renewals during his time at the club. It remains to be seen whether the management will proceed differently in this case.

In any case, Chivu will receive a sizeable pay bump from Inter. His current wages, €2.5M annually, are meager for top teams’ standards. The Nerazzurri currently lead Serie A with an eight-point cushion over Milan, which have a game in hand. They reached the Coppa Italia semi-finals but missed out on a top-eight finish in the UEFA Champions League group phase.

The brass turned to the former Parma manager after failing to convince Cesc Fabregas to jump ship and depart Como. The up-and-coming gaffer clicked with the squad right away, stuck with the scheme, and zhuzhed it up a little with his concepts.

Our Take on Inter and Chivu

It’s par for the course for a team that likes stability. Things would have had to go disastrously for him not to be confirmed for at least one more campaign. It wouldn’t hurt if they finally prevailed in a crunch match, but they can take home the Scudetto regardless as long as they keep their eye on the ball.
