According to Football Insider, Lucas Bergvall is not planning to push for a Tottenham exit ahead of the summer. Teams like Chelsea and Aston Villa have shown strong interest since January, with the two clubs now set to face a frustrating period in their pursuit of the Swedish midfielder.
Tottenham have made some strategic investments in their squad by spending money on promising young talents like Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, and Luka Vuskovic. All those players have shone and certainly shown they have a big future ahead, and Spurs hope they stay at the club for as long as possible.
Bergvall, in particular, has been a big miss for Tottenham in what has been a dismal season otherwise, as he has missed action through a long-term injury problem. The Swedish midfielder attracted plenty of interest in January, as Spurs had no plans to sell him anyway.
Chelsea and Aston Villa failed with approaches in January, with the two clubs yet to cool their admiration of the 20-year-old Tottenham sensation. The Premier League duo are expected to return in the summer, although Spurs are protected by the Swede’s long-term contract.
While Tottenham have no plans to sell Bergvall, the young midfielder is also not pushing for an exit from the North Londoners. This stance from both parties could frustrate the likes of Aston Villa and Chelsea ahead of the summer, although there could be a caveat.
Bergvall is not pushing to leave, and Tottenham certainly do not want to sell, but there could be a caveat. Given how Spurs are close to the relegation zone, should the North Londoners actually drop to the EFL Championship, it could lead to a mass exodus from the club.
Given Spurs do not tend to include relegation clauses in player contracts, it is difficult to envisage a season in the second tier while paying top-division wages. Should they go down, there is a big chance players like Bergvall could follow suit and head out the exit door, which could be the only chance for Chelsea and Aston Villa to sign the 20-year-old Tottenham sensation.
