According to a report from TEAMtalk, Giorgi Mamardashvili is considering handing in a transfer request. The former Valencia shot-stopper wants to leave the Merseyside club on loan to ensure he gets regular game time.
Mamardashvili made quite a name for himself while playing for Valencia. On the back of his impressive performances for club and country, Liverpool forked out €35 million and struck a deal for the Georgian international back in 2024.
They decided to let the 25-year-old continue in Spain on loan for another season, as he was unlikely to get much game time at Anfield with Alisson Becker ahead of him in the pecking order at the Merseyside club. After another impressive season at the La Liga club, Mamardashvili arrived at Anfield last summer.
Despite the fact that Alisson was still at the club, the Georgian international was still hoping to have a prominent role in the team. He was ready to challenge the Brazilian shot-stopper for a place in the starting XI. However, things haven’t gone according to plan for him.
He has failed to dislodge the 33-year-old at Anfield and has been restricted to just 11 appearances across competitions in the ongoing campaign. The 25-year-old hasn’t had the desired impact in his limited opportunities, and Arne Slot has preferred Alisson in goal, as he has been more reliable between the two.
Having struggled to get enough game time, Mamardashvili is growing increasingly frustrated and is now seriously considering handing in a transfer request. With Alisson set to continue at the club until 2027, the Georgian doesn’t intend on warming the bench moving forward.
While Liverpool still consider him to be their number one goalkeeper in the long run, the pathway to first-team football remains blocked for now, with Alisson still at the club. As a result, the 25-year-old is now seriously considering requesting a loan move for next season to ensure he gets regular game time.
The Reds are aware of his situation and could allow him to leave on a temporary basis if they wish to continue with Alisson as their number one.
