Lyon’s Malick Fofana behind schedule in recovery from ankle injury

Malick Fofana (20) was expected to make his Olympique Lyonnais return at the start of March. However, he has yet to be included in the matchday squad. The Belgium international is, therefore, slightly behind schedule in his return from injury.

Fofana suffered a severe ankle sprain at the end of October and was forced off on a stretcher. He was forced to undergo surgery on the ankle, and whilst that surgery was a success, he continues to suffer from post-operative pain in the ankle. An MRI last week confirmed that the ligaments had healed correctly, although he has also needed injections for the pain, L’Équipe understands.

Those injections should aid his recovery and there is a chance that he could make the group to face Paris FC on Sunday; otherwise, he will be expected to face Le Havre AC the following week. Time is of the essence for Fofana, who will also want to participate in Belgium’s upcoming matches during the international break, in order to further his claim for a spot in Rudi Garcia’s World Cup squad.
