Ahmed Kantari set to be sacked as Nantes head coach

Nantes head coach Ahmed Kantari is increasingly likely to be sacked in the coming days as his struggling side is heading straight to Ligue 2. Ouest-France understands that Kantari’s days at Nantes are numbered with the Nantes owners ready to pull the plug as soon as his replacement is found. Kantari took over from Luis Castro in the Nantes dugout with the team in a precarious, but not desperate situation back in November.

Now, Nantes are 17th in the Ligue 1 standings, and their realistic hopes of survival rely on them being able to catch 16th-placed Auxerre, who are two points ahead of them with nine games left to spare. Les Canaris have lost seven of their last eight Ligue 1 games. Saturday’s home loss to Angers was probably the last straw for Kantari.

Furthermore, Nantes are set for a two-week period without a game considering their away game to PSG has been postponed, to allow extra rest days for Luis Enrique’s Les Parisiens between their Champions League RO16 ties against Chelsea. The timing would be ripe for Nantes to appoint a new coach before their March 22 home game against RC Strasbourg.
