Official | Wolfsburg dismiss head coach Daniel Bauer

Wolfsburg have announced the dismissal of head coach Daniel Bauer and managing director of sports, Peter Christiansen.

VfL’s decision comes following the 2-1 defeat against Hamburg, with the club occupying 17th, two points adrift of Werder Bremen who occupy the relegation play-off, who play Union Berlin later today.

“This decision was anything but easy for us,” said sporting director Pirmin Schwegler. “We had hoped to turn things around together. After analyzing the overall situation, we came to the conclusion that we needed to give the team a new impetus to secure our place in the league.

“We are very grateful to Daniel for his commitment to the first team, but also for his many years of work as a coach in the VfL Academy. We wish him all the very best for the future, both professionally and personally.”

Bauer took charge from Paul Simonis in November on an interim basis before earning the job full time. But Wolfsburg’s 8-1 defeat against Bayern Munich was the start of a barren run with VfL now eight games without a win.
