Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro on when he thinks they can win the title again: 2028 or 2029

In an interview with Bild, Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has spoken on when he thinks the club can win the title again.

Die Werkself are the most recent Bundesliga winners not named Bayern Munich, following their unprecedented unbeaten season and title win in 2024 under Xabi Alonso.

However, since then, there has been a mass exodus of players as well as the departure of the head coach who masterminded the win, and it has meant this season is a transitional one. This has also meant that Bayern have gone on to win the past two league titles (this season is basically confirmed).

On the dominance of Bayern, Carro said:

“It hurts me that Bayern are dominating the league so much. Of course, they have three times our budget, but they’ve done a lot of good work over the years. Nevertheless, you have to try to give them a hard time. We managed to do that in 2024.”

Leverkusen’s title-winning chances:

It is widely known that this Leverkusen side has the potential to challenge for the title again, but not in the near future. On whether he believes the team can win the title again, Carro said:

“Yes”

When pushed for a potential year, the Spaniard said:

“2028 or 2029”

Die Werkself have shown flashes of their quality this season, including a 2-0 win away against Manchester City, but they have also shown that they are still a way off being able to compete at the very top of the Bundesliga once again.
