Real Madrid contemplating Cesc Fabregas move

Florentino Perez has Cesc Fabregas on his shortlist of permanent managers, as Alvaro Arbeloa may not be considered for the role.

According to Fichajes, Como manager Cesc Fabregas is part of Florentino Perez’s shortlist for the next Real Madrid manager. Alvaro Arbeloa may not be given the job in the summer, with the 38-year-old former Arsenal and Chelsea playmaker not seen as one of the contenders for the role.

The Real Madrid job could be one of the most coveted positions in the market when the summer window arrives. Florentino Perez was forced to make some hard decisions, including the sacking of Xabi Alonso and then installing former defender Alvaro Arbeloa as the interim boss for the remainder of the season.

Arbeloa could still achieve big success in the dugout, as Real Madrid are firmly in the 2025/26 La Liga title race as well as in the UEFA Champions League last 16. However, there is a feeling that the former defender may not be given the role permanently, as Perez is eyeing some high-profile names, including former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Unai Emery is also on his shortlist, and now Cesc Fabregas is being added as a potential option to replace Arbeloa. The 38-year-old former Arsenal and Chelsea playmaker is having an exceptional period in the dugout at Italian side Como, who are vying for a top-four place in Serie A.

Fabregas has been coveted by the likes of Tottenham and Manchester City, but the prospect of taking over one of the big clubs in Spain could be an enticing career move for the Spaniard. Former side Barcelona are also interested should Hansi Flick depart, as the summer could open a big race for the Spaniard’s services.

Cesc Fabregas to Real Madrid?

Moving to Real Madrid might also resemble a controversial move for Cesc Fabregas owing to his lifelong allegiance with Barcelona, where he came through La Masia. However, the prospect of taking over at the Bernabeu will be enticing enough for any top manager, including the former Spanish international.

It remains to be seen whether Florentino Perez views Fabregas as his top target, considering they have also been linked with Jurgen Klopp as a potential option. Fabregas could be a good enough option to take Real Madrid forward, but only the summer window will make Perez’s choices clearer.
