Things have not really gone according to plan for Tottenham this season. While they were hoping to build on their Europa League triumph, the North London club have struggled to get the desired results and are all set for an intense relegation battle heading into the final nine games of the season despite having top-class players Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, and Micky van de Ven.
Spurs are only a point above the drop zone, and relegation to the EFL Championship could be a massive blow for one of the biggest clubs in England. Not only will it cause a financial crisis, but it will also lead to a mass exodus of star players. Multiple top clubs are keeping tabs on their situation, and Atletico Madrid are one of them.
According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are plotting a raid on Spurs for Pedro Porro. Despite the club’s struggles, the Spanish full-back has been one of their standout performers, and Atletico Madrid are hoping to snap him up for a bargain fee of just €50 million.
Porro joined Tottenham at the start of 2023 from Sporting CP. While the Spaniard moved on an initial loan deal, his stay was made permanent in the following summer. The 26-year-old has only gone from strength to strength since and has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League.
In the ongoing campaign, the right-back has been involved in 37 games across competitions and has contributed towards seven goals. The Spanish full-back’s performances have attracted a lot of interest. While his contract runs until 2028, Spurs won’t be able to hold onto him if they get relegated.
Tottenham value him at around €75 million, but in case of relegation, they will have to lower their demands. Atletico, who want to bolster the right flank by signing Porro, are hoping to secure his services for just €50 million.
The Spanish full-back can certainly fancy a return to Spain and the opportunity to play for one of the giants, who are a constant feature in the Champions League.
