Roggerio Nyakossi has gone from strength to strength since joining OH Leuven. He has been doing wonders for the Belgian outfit, and his performances have placed him on the radar of quite a few top clubs.
According to a report from Nieuwsblad, Liverpool are interested in signing the Swiss youth international as they look to add more quality and depth to their defence ahead of next season. They are scouting him extensively as they plot a raid on Leuven.
While things didn’t work out for Nyakossi at Marseille, he has certainly got his career back on track since moving to Belgium. The 22-year-old spent the majority of the first half of the season on the bench, but he managed to work his way into the manager’s plans.
The Swiss defender has been a regular feature at the back in the second half. He has featured in a total of 19 matches across competitions and has even bagged three goals. His aerial ability has stood out, and it is one of the major reasons why a club like Liverpool is after his signature.
Since Nyakossi will enter the final year of his contract at the Belgian club, he is expected to be on the move. They are looking for a significant fee, and the report suggests Liverpool would be willing to meet their demands, as they look for a long-term replacement for their skipper, Virgil van Dijk.
While the Dutch international could continue for another season, Ibrahima Konate might end up leaving. As a result, the Reds will certainly sign a new centre-back this summer. They do admire Nyakossi a lot, but they will have to wait for Marseille’s decision.
He might not have played a single minute for their first team, but they did insert a buy-back clause. As a result, it will be interesting to see if they do trigger that option. The Reds do have a massive boost as the player is keen on playing for them. He would jump at the opportunity to move to Anfield this summer.
