Aston Villa ahead of Newcastle United in Gabriel Sara race

Aston Villa have leapfrogged Newcastle United in the pursuit of Galatasaray midfield mainstay Gabriel Sara.

Gabriel Sara looks set to return to England in the near future, as he has emerged as a potential target for multiple Premier League clubs following his impressive performances for Galatasaray.

His desire to test himself in the English top flight has come to light amidst interest from Newcastle United and Aston Villa. According to a report from TEAMtalk, Unai Emery’s team are ahead of the Magpies in the race for his signature.

Sara might not have played in the Premier League, but he has had the taste of English football during his stint with Norwich in the Championship. He had a two-year spell at the club before earning a move to the Turkish giants in the summer of 2024.

The 26-year-old has only gone from strength to strength since joining the Super Lig outfit. He established himself as a key figure, and his impressive performances have also resulted in a lot of interest. While he prefers playing as a central midfielder, Sara is equally effective in an attacking role.

In the ongoing campaign, the Brazilian has been involved in 39 matches, and he has also contributed towards nine goals. His creativity, ability to impact the game on both ends of the pitch and his consistency have resulted in concrete interest from Premier League clubs.

Premier League duo to battle for Sara

Aston Villa and Newcastle United are both very keen on signing the 26-year-old. They are closely monitoring him ahead of a potential transfer in the summer. Unai Emery’s team are looking at him as an ideal replacement for Emiliano Buendia, who is expected to be on the move this summer.

Meanwhile, Eddie Howe’s team want to add more quality to their midfield amidst uncertainty around the future of their stars. They believe Sara has all the qualities they are looking for in a new midfield. While Newcastle are keen on his signature, Villa are the ones leading the line.

With the player keen on making a switch to the Premier League, it will be interesting to see if Villa can actually win the race for his signature.
