Arsenal better-placed than Liverpool in Yan Diomande chase

Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing 19-year-old Ivory Coast international Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Caught Offside, Arsenal and Liverpool are interested in RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande. The two Premier League giants are keen on reinforcing their offensive units by signing a wide attacker in the upcoming transfer window.

The latest update has brought good news for Arsenal and a concerning update for Liverpool, as the Gunners “would have the edge” in the battle for the Ivorian winger’s signature. So, the Merseyside outfit may face a tall order to land the teenage prospect in the coming months.

Yan Diomande and his meteoric rise

Yan Diomande has established himself as one of the world’s best young wingers since joining RB Leipzig from CD Leganes last summer. Born in Abidjan, the 19-year-old spent most of his formative years thus far in the USA before moving to Spain. However, the player’s stint with Leganes ended after only six months, and he has been excellent for RB Leipzig.

The Ivory Coast international has been one of the most productive attackers for the Bundesliga club this season, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists in 30 appearances across all competitions thus far. Meanwhile, Diomande’s progress has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Arsenal and Liverpool.

A man in demand

Yan Diomande has been on Liverpool’s wishlist for several weeks. The continued interest makes sense, as the Reds are combing the market for a versatile wide attacker ahead of Mohamed Salah’s impending departure. Additionally, Luis Diaz’s departure has affected Liverpool’s output in the final third. So, Diomande is an option worth considering, as he can be a long-term like-for-like replacement for the Colombian international.

As for Arsenal, the Gunners are focusing on the next phase of their evolution, as Mikel Arteta wants more firepower and productivity in the final third. With Leandro Trossard on the wrong side of 30 and Gabriel Martinelli struggling to remain consistent, Diomande has emerged as a viable long-term target.

However, the latest report has revealed that Liverpool will face an uphill task to land Diomande, as they are behind Arsenal in the battle for his signature. Perhaps, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League can help Liverpool regain some foothold and land the 19-year-old Ivory Coast international.
