According to Sport.PL, young defender Jan Ziolkowski is emerging on the radar of Newcastle United ahead of the summer. Observers have watched the 20-year-old Serie A defensive prodigy in action for his club Roma, but there’s a sense that the Polish international is unhappy with his situation in the Italian capital.
Jan Ziolkowski had a promising start to life in the Italian capital when he joined Roma from Legia Warsaw in the summer. Not many would have anticipated the young defender getting his chances with the regularity that Gian Piero Gasperini afforded, but things have since tailed off.
Ziolkowski has made 19 appearances across all competitions, including 14 in Serie A, although his minutes have dried up of late, with regular appearances considered fundamental for his development into an established centre-back in the future.
The report also states that the Polish international is baffled by the lack of minutes despite putting in some commanding performances, particularly in the Europa League. The perceived unhappiness of the player has led to speculation that he could attract offers from suitors, as Newcastle United are showing an interest.
Observers from the Premier League club have watched the defender in action plenty of times and could have been convinced of his qualities. There is yet to be a scenario where Newcastle United have enquired or made an offer either to Roma or the camp of Ziolkowski.
Newcastle United might make changes to their backline, particularly in the central areas, as well as bring in a new right back. Sticking with centre-backs, there’s speculation over Sven Botman’s future, while veteran Fabian Schar isn’t getting any younger — the Magpies could bring in at least one young and one experienced star in the summer.
They are linked with Werder Bremen’s Karim Coulibaly as one example, alongside many other names. The links to Ziolkowski make sense with regard to their search for a young defender they can develop, as they are expected to bring in multiple names in the summer.
