Crystal Palace ramp up efforts to sign Harris Afzal

Crystal Palace have stepped up their efforts to sign 16-year-old Scottish defensive sensation Harris Afzal, amidst interest from Southampton.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Crystal Palace are keen on acquiring the services of Harris Afzal. The Eagles have ramped up their efforts to strike a deal for his services. The teenager is currently in London as they look to convince him to move to Selhurst Park.

The London club entered the race for the 16-year-old full-back at the start of the month. They already have an agreement in place with his club, Queen’s Park, on a deal worth £40,000 plus a significant sell-on clause. Despite that, the transfer is far from done, as they are yet to get the green light from the player.

The battle for his signature remains wide open as Southampton are also keen on adding him to their ranks. Even the Saints have a similar agreement with his club, and they have been working hard to convince the teenager to join them.

The young left-back is considered one of the brightest talents in Scotland, and the Saints have been doing everything in their power to lure him. Just like the Eagles, they have also hosted Afzal as they look to convince him.

Crystal Palace are hoping to win the race for Afzal

However, it seems Steve Parish’s Crystal Palace are hoping their efforts to bring him to London to experience the club and its facilities first-hand will help tilt the balance in their favour. In simple terms, their recent efforts will give them an edge in negotiations and help them hijack the deal from the Saints.

Scottish giants Rangers are also keen on signing the 16-year-old defender, but it seems he is set to make a move across the border. Afzal could follow a similar roadmap to that of Andy Robertson, who came up the ranks at Queen’s Park and made the move to England quite early in his career.

He went on to play at the highest level, and there is a belief that the teenager could also reach similar heights. The Eagles have put in the work, and now they are hoping to reap the rewards.
