Everton in transfer tussle to sign Kevin Pedro, run rule over him

Everton will reportedly look to sign 20-year-old French right-back Kevin Pedro from Ligue 2 club US Saint-Etienne in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by French outlet Jeunes Footeux, US Saint-Etienne full-back Kevin Pedro is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are keen on bolstering their defensive unit by signing a right-back ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Apart from Everton, Stade Rennais, LOSC Lille, RC Strasbourg, Bayer Leverkusen, and Bournemouth are also keen on signing the Frenchman from Saint-Etienne in the upcoming transfer window. However, the Ligue 2 club’s decision-makers have put up a roadblock in front of the prospective suitors, as they are unwilling to part ways with him this year.

Kevin Pedro is the latest promising prospect to rise in prominence in his homeland. Born in Carcassonne, the 20-year-old spent his formative years in France, passing through the academies at FC Épinay Athletico, ES Viry-Châtillon, Tremplin Foot, and US Ris-Orangis before graduating from the youth division at US Saint-Etienne.

Pedro has become a regular for Saint-Etienne this season, and he has made 19 appearances for the Ligue 2 club thus far while chipping in with three goals. Meanwhile, Pedro’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Everton will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature this summer.

Everton’s interest in Kevin Pedro is understandable. The Toffees are scouring the market for a right-back, as Seamus Coleman is in the twilight of his career. Additionally, Nathan Patterson has struggled with fitness issues throughout his spell with the Merseyside outfit. While Jake O’Brien has been solid as a right-back, Everton can do with another option for the position.

Several candidates, including Ben White, have thus emerged on Everton’s wishlist, with Pedro also a viable target. However, the intense competition for his signature means the Merseyside outfit must move efficiently and decisively to secure the 20-year-old Frenchman’s signature in the upcoming transfer window.

Additionally, Saint-Etienne’s stance on the youngster’s future adds to the size of Everton’s challenge. So, the Toffees need to work on turning Pedro’s head before approaching the Ligue 2 outfit for a summer move. However, even if a deal does not materialise, White is an appealing target due to his Premier League know-how and versatility.
