Olympique de Marseille are scouring the Sporting Directors’ market to secure Medhi Benatia’s replacement, according to La Provence. Marseille have appointed Stéphane Richard as their club president last week, and the former Orange CEO will be tasked – alongside club owner Franck McCourt – to find a new Sporting Director given the former Juventus and Bayern Munich handed in his notice.
La Provence understands that OM have mandated a firm to identify the ideal man to oversee Marseille’s sporting policy. McCourt reportedly wishes to appoint an “humble” and “clear-sighted” character as Sporting Director.
The rumour mill has already started, and one of the names being considered is Sunderland’s Florent Ghisolfi. The latter has loads of Ligue 1 experience with previous spells in Lens and Nice, although the outlet adds that Ghisolfi has hinted that he’d favour extending his stay on Wearside.
La Provence reports that current Brest’s Grégory Lorenzy – one of the most competent SD in Ligue 1 – has some support within OM, despite Lorenzi being heavily linked to replace Nice’s Florian Maurice. Julien Fournier and Le Havre’s Mathieu Bodmer are also considered.
