Fulham, Manchester United register interest in Richard Rios

Fulham and Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing 25-year-old Colombian international Richard Rios from SL Benfica in the summer transfer window.

A report by AS Colombia has revealed that Fulham and Manchester United are interested in SL Benfica midfielder Richard Rios. The two Premier League clubs are keen on reinforcing their first-team squads by signing a holding midfielder ahead of the 2026/27 season. They have expressed their interest in the 25-year-old.

Apart from Fulham and Manchester United, AS Roma, Inter Milan, and Napoli are keen on signing the South American midfielder from Benfica in the upcoming transfer window. However, the Portuguese giants have no interest in parting ways with Rios in the coming months, putting his suitors in a spot of bother.

Richard Rios and his meteoric rise

Richard Rios has seen his stock skyrocket since breaking out in international football at the 2024 Copa America. Born in Vegachi, the 25-year-old spent his formative years in Brazil and graduated from the youth division at Flamengo. However, his exploits at the 2024 Copa America compelled several high-profile clubs to pursue his signature before Benfica signed him last summer.

Rios has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for Benfica this season, making nearly 50 appearances thus far while chipping in with five goals and five assists. Meanwhile, the Colombian midfielder’s progress has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, with Premier League clubs, in particular, vying for his signature. Fulham and Manchester United are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Richard Rios has been on Manchester United’s wishlist for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, as the Red Devils are scouring the market for a defensive midfielder as they prepare for Casemiro’s impending departure as a free agent.
