Robert Lewandowski could be on the move this summer, as his contract with Barcelona is running out. The Polish international could end up moving to the Premier League, as Chelsea are keen on his signature.
According to a report from Fichajes, the Blues have formally expressed their desire to bring him to Stamford Bridge this summer. Liam Rosenior is looking for a proven world-class finisher, and Lewandowski can certainly help their cause, despite the fact that he is in the final phase of his career.
The 37-year-old has done wonders throughout his career. He made a name for himself at Borussia Dortmund and then further enhanced his reputation at Bayern Munich before making the move to Barcelona in the summer of 2022.
The 165-cap Polish international has 118 goals and 23 assists in his 187 matches for the Spanish giants. He has played a big part in their two La Liga-winning campaigns. While he is no longer a regular starter, Lewandowski remains an important part of Hansi Flick’s setup.
In just over 2,000 minutes of first-team action spread across his 40 appearances, the 37-year-old has 17 goals and three assists. Despite his age, he certainly seems to have a few more years left in him. However, it is not yet certain if he will continue at the Catalan club.
His contract runs out at the end of the season, and he has yet to be offered a new deal. His agent, Pini Zahavi, will soon travel to Catalonia to hold talks with Barcelona, as he seeks clarity regarding the future of his client, amidst interest from multiple top clubs in Europe.
While he could choose to move to the MLS as well, the opportunity to try himself in the Premier League could tempt the 37-year-old. Chelsea are one of the most serious suitors of the Polish striker. The Blues prefer signing young players with massive potential, but it seems they are willing to make an exception for Lewandowski.
The London club signed Liam Delap and Joao Pedro last summer. While Pedro has done a great job, Delap hasn’t lived up to the expectations. As a result, Rosenior is looking to bring in a proven striker who can help them climb back up to the top of English football.
Lewandowski won’t just guarantee goals; his arrival will help the young forwards around him. The 37-year-old could prove to be a great mentor for the likes of Estevao, Cole Palmer, Pedro, Delap, and others.
