Yannick Cahuzac is set to return to RC Lens. Having played for and captained Les Sang et Or between 2019 and 2022 (73 appearances, one goal and one assist), the Ajaccio-born player will join Pierre Sage’s coaching staff for next season.
“It almost happened much earlier in the season (last summer) and had been agreed. Now, we’re on the verge of making it happen, so it’s quite positive; it will strengthen our squad,” announced the recently named Ligue 1 Manager of the Season in an interview with L’Équipe.
“Knowing someone is one thing, working with them is quite another; for now, we’re only at the first stage. But given the person we have in front of us, we have little doubt that it will work out.”
Currently serving as Olivier Pantaloni’s assistant coach at FC Lorient, Cahuzac, whose contract expires next June, will thus return to familiar surroundings. At Lens, where he also served as Franck Haise’s assistant during the 2022-23 season, the former midfielder will, in a few months’ time, experience the Champions League for the first time – a competition for which Sage’s men have qualified thanks to their second-place finish in the league.
As runners-up to Paris Saint-Germain, Lens will be looking to round off their season in the best possible way on Friday when they face OGC Nice in the Coupe de France final.
