West Ham United midfielder Edson Alvarez has been linked with a permanent move away from the club ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old spent the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan at Turkish club Fenerbahce, but he is set to return to his parent club in the summer. There have been rumours of a potential permanent departure. However, he has been urged to continue in Europe and remain at the London Stadium for another campaign.
Fox Sports analyst Raoul Ortiz believes the 28-year-old has the level to continue in Europe, and that staying at West Ham United would be ideal. It remains to be seen whether the Mexican International is prepared to play in the championship next season.
Ortiz said via : “There’s talk that Monterrey, Tigres, and América might say, ‘You know what, come here.’ Two years ago he was close to joining Chelsea, and just last year there was talk of a return to Ajax. He should stay in Europe. Injuries have plagued him, but in my opinion, he has the level to continue playing in Europe.”
West Ham could certainly use his quality and experience next season. They will look to bounce back strongly and secure promotion back to the Premier League immediately. Alvarez could be an important player for them in the Championship. He has the physicality and defensive steel to thrive in the second division of English football. It will be interesting to see if West Ham United can convince the player to stay.
The 28-year-old has been linked with multiple clubs, including CF Monterrey, in recent weeks. There is unlikely to be a shortage of clubs interested in signing the player. West Ham should do everything in their power to keep him at the club. They need to add more quality and depth to the team if they want to come back up next season.
The Mexican international has had his share of injury problems, and he will look to get over them and make his mark at the London club next season if he returns to the club.
