Brest president and owner opens door to club sale

Speaking to L’Équipe, Denis Le Saint, president and owner of Stade Brestois, has opened the door to selling the club. That is just one of many options up for consideration in light of the economic crisis that has gripped French football.

Brest’s financial struggles are no secret. Despite participating in the UEFA Champions League in the 2024/25 season, the club has not had the means to invest and last season, there were Ligue 2 clubs with larger budgets.

There is a feeling that the Breton club are at a turning point. Grégory Lorenzi, who, as sporting director, took the club from Ligue 2 to the UCL, has left, joining Olympique de Marseille, whilst Eric Roy has cast doubt over his future at the club.

Le Saint has now said that he would be open to a sale. “But it isn’t a question of selling to someone who wouldn’t treat the club well,” he added.

Brest to be a part of a multi-club model?

He continued, “Naturally, we are open. We have to be prepared to find a solution […] we can’t live off the Champions League jackpot forever and the decrease in TV rights obliges us to think about it because if the TV rights continue to restrict us, we won’t be able to cope.”

Le Saint also opened the possibility of becoming part of a multi-club model, which is very à la mode in French football. “Imagine if a big English club, who play in red, just like us, were interested in a club like Brest… there isn’t any contact, but we wouldn’t be able to say no,” said the Brest owner.

As per a report from Romain Molina, the Breton club is valued at €60m.
