What would a good presidential campaign be without its share of grandiose and spectacular promises?
Florentino Pérez, 79, who is seeking a third term as president of Real Madrid, knows this better than anyone. And that may be why the Spanish club executive has announced that, should he be re-elected at the helm of Los Merengues, the summer could see the arrival of the most expensive player in the Madrid club’s history, even mentioning a sum of “at least €150m” to secure this new Galáctico.
So, although Pérez hasn’t mentioned any names, everyone has been placing their own little bets. What remains a secret for now may well not stay that way for much longer. Especially as, according to The Telegraph, the player for whom Real Madrid are reportedly preparing to make a €150 million bid is none other than Bayern Munich forward Michael Olise (24).
Having enjoyed an exceptional season with the German club (22 goals and 31 assists across all competitions), the Frenchman is seen as the player capable of helping La Casa Blanca return to the pinnacle of European football.
A difficult but ambitious undertaking, which will at least have the benefit of putting Real Madrid back at the centre of the conversation in the coming weeks. And possibly to seal the re-election of a man who does not yet seem ready to relinquish his throne…
