Official | Getafe sign Lyon midfielder Orel Mangala on loan

Getafe have signed Belgium international midfielder Orel Mangala (28) on loan from Lyon, both clubs have announced. Les Gones, who have lost their Champions League 3rd qualifying round’s first leg against Sparta Prague on Tuesday, are in the process of slimming down their squad. They also need to let go of several players on massive wages, like Mangala, whose part of the wages will be covered by the La Liga side.

The Belgian midfielder was signed from Nottingham Forest in 2024 on a four-year deal. His Lyon spell was marred by a serious ACL injury while on loan at Everton last year. Mangala has now joined Getafe on a season-long loan. He remains contracted with Lyon until 2028.

L’Equipe reported that Mangala’s departure will lead to others with Lyon looking to balance their books.
