Auxerre have completed the Deadline Day signing of former Manchester United and Burnley FC centre-back Axel Tuanzebe (28), the Ligue 1 side has announced. The DR Congo international defender has signed a one-year contract, which includes an option for a further year. He’ll wear the No. 4 jersey for Will Still’s Ligue 1 outfit. The versatile Tuanzebe can also fill in as a right-back.
Tuanzebe was a free agent following the expiry of his two-year deal with Burnley FC. He featured in 14 Premier League sides with the Clarets, who have since gone down in the EFL Championship. Tuanzebe notably featured with DR Congo at the 2026 World Cup. Auxerre were in need of defensive reinforcements given they are bottom of Ligue 1, and the only team with two losses in as many games. Tuanzebe could make his Auxerre debut on Friday against Lyon.
