Manchester United are reportedly considering Cesc Fabregas as one of the possible replacements for Michael Carrick.
According to Indykaila News, Cesc Fabregas’s name is being mentioned in connection with the Manchester United job as Michael Carrick’s future remains uncertain. The Englishman is reportedly on borrowed time, and the next few games could determine whether he is still fit to lead the team going forward, with the club possibly already looking at alternatives.
Michael Carrick is under huge pressure after a poor start to the season that has seen the club win only one of their opening five Premier League games. They were also knocked out of the EFL Cup at home after Brighton staged a comeback, and those results have put the manager’s position under serious scrutiny.
There have already been rumours that the club are looking at options to replace Carrick, iincluding Antonio Conte in recent reports. Others such as Eddie Howe, Unai Emery and even Brighton’s Fabian Hurzeler have been linked recently, as Carrick may already be on borrowed time and the club could be judging his next few games very closely.
The story also suggests that Carrick may have until the next international break to turn things around and get the club back into a strong enough position in the table. If he continues on the current path, it could cost him his job, and a new name has now emerged as a possible replacement, with Como’s Cesc Fabregas linked with the role.
Fabregas is widely considered one of the most promising young managers in the game, following his impressive spell at Como. The former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder has guided the Serie A side from the lower leagues of Italian football to the Champions League, which shows how far he has come as a coach.
Several big clubs are already considering him for the future, as he was linked with the Chelsea job before they appointed Xabi Alonso in the summer. Barcelona are also reportedly viewing him as a possible successor to Hansi Flick, which means Manchester United would need to move quickly if they want to appoint the 39-year-old.
The biggest obstacle would be Como, who would not want to lose him midway through their first Champions League season. Fabregas is vital to the Italian side, and they will do everything they can to keep him, although a call from Manchester United could still prove tempting.
