As reported by VI, PSV will be without winger Ruben van Bommel for their Champions League clash with Porto. Van Bommel was absent from the PSV squad that lost this past weekend to newly promoted ADO Den Haag and has not been included in the squad list for the clash with Porto. There is not believed to be an injury concern around van Bommel, more that he is being managed having featured a lot this season having only come back from a long time off injured.
The 22-year-old, who joined PSV last summer, only managed eight games for the club, with four goals in that time. This season he has picked up where he left off, scoring two goals and grabbing two assists in 11 games. His performances for PSV this season earned him a call up to Xavi’s Dutch squad, and van Bommel played in each of the four Nations League matches for his country. As a result, he has already played a lot more football in the past few months than he did last season, so clearly PSV are looking to manage him for the next few weeks.
PSV lost their most recent Champions League clash away to RB Leipzig. As a result, the side travel to Porto without a win from their opening two games. They sit 26th with a single point. Porto have also started the Champions League poorly. So far the side have lost both of their opening games. Suddenly the clash between the two sides has a lot riding on it as both could do with a win to get their campaigns up and running.
