Everton considering Gustavo Hamer swoop

Everton might look to sign 27-year-old Sheffield United midfield Gustavo Hamer in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Gustavo Hamer is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are keen on reinforcing their midfield unit in the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the Sheffield United midfielder. However, they have several options on their wishlist, including Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Dan Neil.

Gustavo Hamer and his rise in prominence

Gustavo Hamer has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the EFL Championship in the 2024/25 season. Born in Itajai, the Brazil-born midfielder spent his formative years in the Netherlands, and he passed through the academies at RKVV Meerburg Zoeterwoude and ADO Den Haag before graduating from the youth division at Feyenoord.

The 27-year-old has been with Sheffield United since August 2023 and was a rare standout in the dreadful 2023/24 campaign for the Blades, which ended in relegation from the Premier League. However, Hamer has been instrumental in the club’s promotion bid this term. In addition, he has earned a spot in the EFL Championship Team of the Season.

The former Dutch youth international has contributed to 16 goals in 40 EFL Championship outings, finding the back of the net nine times and providing seven assists. Meanwhile, Hamer’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Everton will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

Premier League return on the horizon?

Everton’s interest in Gustavo Hamer makes sense. The Toffees are scouring the market for a productive midfielder heading into the summer transfer window as they prepare to part ways with Abdoulaye Doucoure. The Malian midfielder will become a free agent after his contract runs out on June 30, compelling Everton to compile a shortlist of four players, including Dan Neil, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Wilfred Ndidi.

However, Hamer is also a viable target, with his qualities making him a like-for-like replacement for Doucoure. Meanwhile, other targets on Everton’s reported wishlist include Tomas Soucek, with David Moyes pushing to reunite with the Czech midfielder at Bramley Moore-Dock.

As for the interest in Hamer, securing the 27-year-old Brazil-born midfielder’s services will become straightforward if Sheffield United cannot clinch promotion to the Premier League. So, it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the player.
