Newcastle United make approach for Fikayo Tomori

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United have enquired about the availability of AC Milan defensive mainstay Fikayo Tomori.

According to a report from Milanlive, Newcastle United are interested in acquiring the services of Fikayo Tomori and have asked for more information about the former Chelsea centre-back. While he is quite happy at AC Milan, the Magpies could try to strike a deal with the Italian giants, who are looking to raise funds before making any moves this summer.

Tomori was a part of the Chelsea youth setup. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to their first team in the summer of 2017. While he even had a few impressive loan spells, he couldn’t establish himself as a key figure in their team.

He eventually ended up joining AC Milan on loan at the start of 2021. While it was a short loan deal, the Italian giants made it permanent thanks to his impressive performances. He has been ever-present in their defence over the years but things haven’t been that great for him this season.

The 27-year-old has only been involved in a total of 30 matches this season. He has found himself on the bench more often than he would have liked. While he remains a key figure in their team and still has over two years left on his deal, his future is up in the air amidst interest from Premier League clubs.

AC Milan are yet to decide who their next sporting manager will be but they have already started planning for the next transfer window. Before they can focus on who to sign, the Italian club are looking to offload a few players to balance their books and raise funds to spend in the summer.

Tomori could also be on his way out

Malick Thiaw, Theo Hernandez and Mike Maignan are players who could end up parting ways with the club. While Fikayo Tomori is not one of the names on that list, Milan could get the opportunity to cash in on him amidst interest from Newcastle.

The Magpies are interested in Thiaw’s services but during talks with the Italian club, they even enquired about Tomori, who has plenty of experience playing in England thanks to his time at Chelsea. With Dan Burn and Fabian Schar not getting any younger, Howe certainly needs to add more options to his backline and the Milan centre-back could certainly be a great option for them.

Tomori is not certain about his future at the club. While he is happy to continue at Milan, the club could look to move him on for the right price. The Italian club could cash in on him and initiate a complete rebuild at the back with Thiaw also expected to be on the move.
