According to Marca via Sport Witness, Arsenal are bidding the hardest to sign Julian Alvarez in the summer. The Argentine forward has had a successful first season at Atletico Madrid, which has aroused interest from the likes of the Gunners, Barcelona and Liverpool.
Arsenal are in the market for a new striker, which has led them to numerous names across many leagues. Viktor Gyokeres has been mentioned as one of the primary striker targets for the gunners, while Benjamin Sesko’s name is also under heavy consideration.
Arteta had wanted a marquee name to lead his line with Alexander Isak thought to be the favourite name in that regard. However, the Swede carries a prohibitive price tag on his head, and Newcastle United are unlikely to entertain any offers for the striker especially now that they have qualified for the Champions League.
It remains to be seen what sort of striker profile Arteta wants, considering Julian Alvarez was linked with Arsenal a few days ago. Now, another report in the Spanish media has stated that the Gunners are pushing the hardest to get the Atletico Madrid attacker back to the Premier League.
There are obvious challenges in pursuit of the striker given Barcelona have him on their priority list. The financial restrictions at the Catalan club could play a big role in determining if they are in a good position to make a move for Alvarez, which at this moment looks difficult. Meanwhile, Liverpool are also interested in the attacker, although they have now chosen to pursue Florian Wirtz, which could affect their viability to land the Argentine.
New sporting director Andrea Berta was responsible for bringing Alvarez to Atletico Madrid last summer from Manchester City. The Argentine star has had a brilliant first season in the Spanish capital with 36 goals and assists to his name. He currently earns €7 million-a-year in salary at Atletico, and the club are not planning to offer him a new deal despite the interest from elsewhere.
Arsenal can make a good contract offer to tempt Julian Alvarez, although the attacker is not in a hurry to leave his current surroundings. While there is every chance for the gunners to sign the €7m-a-year La Liga attacker there are many difficulties in this pursuit. As Atletico Madrid are not overly eager to part ways with their star attacker it will need a huge bid from the gunners to change that stance.
