According to a report by TEAMtalk, Castello Lukeba is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the RB Leipzig defender. They have submitted an enquiry over a move for the French defender, and they will compete with Manchester United and Real Madrid for his signature.
Castello Lukeba has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the Bundesliga since joining RB Leipzig from Lyon in August 2023. The Frenchman spent his formative years in his hometown and graduated from the youth division at the Ligue 1 club.
The 22-year-old has turned out 72 times thus far for RB Leipzig while chipping in with one goal. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress at the Bundesliga club has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Liverpool, Manchester United, and Real Madrid are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
The French defender has been on Liverpool’s radar for a long time. The continued interest in the RB Leipzig centre-back is understandable. While Virgil van Dijk has signed a new contract, he is approaching the twilight of his illustrious career. In addition, Joe Gomez has struggled with fitness issues throughout his Liverpool career. So, Lukeba is a viable target, with the Reds making an enquiry over a possible summer move.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in Castello Lukeba is surprising. While the Olympic silver medalist is a top-class defender, the Red Devils do not need another left-footed centre-back unless they part ways with Lisandro Martinez. Nevertheless, the RB Leipzig centre-back is a target for Manchester United.
As for Real Madrid, David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger are on the wrong side of 30. In addition, Eder Militao’s long-term viability is uncertain, as he has suffered two long-term knee injuries in as many seasons. So, Lukeba is a viable target for Real Madrid. However, with Liverpool making the first move, the other two suitors may have fallen behind in the race to sign the Frenchman.
Widespread reports have claimed that Lukeba has a release clause worth €90 million in his contract with RB Leipzig. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can beat Manchester United and Real Madrid to the 22-year-old French defender’s signature.
