According to Sky Sports, Aston Villa could kick-start their summer business with a Bosman move for Zepiqueno Redmond from Feyenoord. The 18-year-old Dutch wonderkid has been on the radars of a few English sides, as it appears that Unai Emery’s side have won the race.
Zepiqueno Redmond is considered one of the top talents produced by the Feyenoord academy in recent years. The attacker has been a prolific presence for the youth teams and has made the necessary impact when given the chance to play first-team football.
The attacker has already scored for the senior group, with two goals and a single assist in the nine times he has played with the first team. Those strikes have all come in the KNVB club this season, but he never opened his account in the Eredivisie or the Champions League despite playing decent minutes in either of those competitions.
With his contract at Feyenoord set to expire, there were a few teams like Tottenham and Bournemouth chasing his signature on a Bosman deal ahead of the summer. Spurs were deemed as the front-runners for the striker, although now, Aston Villa may have stolen the march.
Aston Villa are now set to sign Redmond on a free transfer probably as a second-choice striker and potential replacement for the departed Jhon Duran. The idea once again seems to be leaning towards adding a highly-rated young star, who has the upside to develop into a top star in the future, something akin to the Colombian who joined Al-Nassr on a huge deal back in January.
There are some expected consequences to Aston Villa missing out on Champions League football following a controversial loss to Manchester United on the final day of the season. There are some potential departures expected with Ollie Watkins one of those who could be sold.
Names like Evann Guessand have been linked with a move, which shows that Aston Villa are open to revamping the No.9 position. The expected signing of 18-year-old Dutch wonderkid Redmond is a great example of their intentions for the role, and the Feyenoord star is likely to start behind a new No.9 when the new season begins.
