Borussia Dortmund have extended the contract of youth prospect Mathis Albert (16), according to Ruhr Nachrichten. The American youth international is expected to travel to the US to partake in the Club World Cup with BVB, just days after signing his new contract following his 16th birthday.
Albert’s contract has been extended beyond 2027 having joined the club last summer, and club bosses believe the winger has the potential to make the leap into Dortmund’s first team squad.
“Mathis Albert has incredible potential,” said Dortmund’s Mike Tullberg. “His one-on-one skills are already exceptional. At the same time, he still needs to learn how to play better defensively.”
At 16, Albert has already made 25 games across all competitions for the U19s last season – scoring seven goals and providing four assists, including representing Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Youth League where he scored against Sturm Graz last season.
As noted by RN, Albert possess ‘explosive acceleration’ and is nifty at changing direction. A right-footer that likes to cut inside, the American – who also holds German and French citizenship – has often being deployed on the right-wing.
As well as Albert, Ousmane Diallo, Tyler Meiser and Samuele Inacio could also be including in Borussia Dortmund’s Club World Cup squad.
