According to TEAMtalk, Everton are eager to explore a move for Theirno Barry from Villarreal. The Toffees are open to paying the striker’s €40 million release clause to bring the Frenchman to the club, as there are considerable doubts over Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future.
A new striker is at the forefront of Everton transfer chiefs, as there are considerable doubts over Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future at the club. David Moyes will want a new option to compete with Beto, as the Toffees enter a brand new stadium ahead of the new campaign.
Calvert-Lewin is expected to leave on a free transfer, while a new striker would ideally cost a considerable sum in the market. Incidentally, Moyes has been looking at a specific profile of strikers, with the links to mane names indicating the manager wants a tall and physically imposing figure to lead the line, much like Calvert-Lewin and Beto.
Everton held discussions with Liam Delap before he made his move to Chelsea. There are other names in the market they are considering including Stuttgart forward Nick Woltemade, whoi represents a similar profile of a striker, as there;’s another name on their shortlist.
Everton are also interested in Theirno Barry, the Villarreal striker who had 23 goals and assists for the Yellow Submarines last season across all competitions. There’s an indication that the striker would like to test himself in the Premier League, which has come as a big boost for the Toffees in this pursuit of the Frenchman.
Everton are aware of a €40 million release clause in Barry’s contract which Villarreal are not determined to negotiate at all costs. The striker cost the Spainards 15 million last summer from FC Basel, and they would demand the entire release clause in one payment to let the 23 G/A La Liga striker leave the club.
Everton for their part are open to the idea, having indicated a willingness to trigger the €40 million release clause in Barry’s contract. For now, talks are yet to commence between all parties, as the Toffees might ponder initiating discussions to explore a move for the Villarreal star.
