According to RadioEsport via Fichajes, Enzo Barrenechea could end up securing a permanent move away from Aston Villa this summer. The Argentine defensive midfielder, who spent the last season out on loan at Valencia has been informed by Unai Emery that he is not needed at the Birmingham-based club. As a result, a move away from the club is on the cards.
Barrenechea went up the ranks at Juventus and even got promoted to the Turin-based club’s first team. But he wasn’t an important part of their plans, as a result, they ended up sending him out on loan to Frosinone for the 2023/24 season.
The Old Lady then shipped him out to Aston Villa on a permanent basis last summer using him as a part of the Douglas Luiz deal. While Villa agreed to the swap, Barrenechea wasn’t in Unai Emery’s plans. As a result, they sanctioned an immediate loan deal to Valencia.
Initially, it was quite a struggle for the 24-year-old at the Spanish club but the arrival of Carlos Corberán mid-way through the season helped his cause. He became an important figure under the former West Brom manager. He ended up featuring in 31 league matches and even contributed towards three goals.
His impressive performances attracted a lot of interest and there were even talks about Emery considering integrating him in his first-team. However, that hasn’t gone as planned. The Spanish manager still has no place for the Argentine defensive midfielder in his squad.
He has informed Barrenechea that he is not counting on him for next season. Villa are ready to sell and the 24-year-old has been asked to look for a new club. He is keen on securing a return to Valencia and the Spanish club are also interested in having him in their ranks.
Valencia are considering two options at this one. They could either look to secure his services on another loan deal with a buy option or buy him permanently for a fee of around €5-7 million. While Villa are ready to sell, they might certainly want a lot more than that given his recent performances.
