Newcastle United will only sign Jack Grealish on loan this summer

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are only interested in signing Manchester City misfit Jack Grealish on a loan deal this summer.

According to a report from The Sun, Newcastle United are willing to offer Jack Grealish a chance to get his career back on track with a move to Tyneside. However, the Magpies are only interested in acquiring his services on a temporary basis.

Grealish came up the ranks at Aston Villa. He made quite a name for himself while playing for their first team and the majority of the top clubs in Europe were keen on signing him. But Manchester City managed to win the race as they not only convinced him but even broke the bank and paid around £100 million to add him to their squad.

Grealish’s time at City has ended?

While the 29-year-old winger was a key figure in Pep Guardiola’s team in the initial years following his move in 2021, things haven’t been that great for him of late. He was involved in just 32 matches last season and racked up just over 1,500 minutes of first-team action.

Grealish could only manage eight goal contributions all season long. The Engish international was left on the bench in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace. With the club desperate for a goal in the final minutes, Guardiola decided to hand Claudio Echeverri a debut instead of giving the former Villa star a crack at it.

The decision came as a massive surprise to many and it was a sign that Guardiola no longer has the 29-year-old in his plan. With him being snubbed from City’s squad for the FIFA Club World Cup, it is almost certain that the Spanish manager doesn’t want him around next season.

While City are ready to sell and there is a massive interest in him, a permanent deal looks highly unlikely despite the fact that City are willing to take a financial fit. Grealish earns £300,000-a-week and only a few clubs in the world can afford those massive wages.

Newcastle want Grealish but only on loan

As a result, a loan deal looks like the only viable outcome with City paying a part of his salary for the next year. Newcastle have emerged as a potential destination for the English international. Eddie Howe seeks more quality on the flanks and he is a big admirer of Grealish.

While they are keen on his signature, the Magpies will only make a move if City are willing to sanction a loan deal. Signing him could become a top priority for the Tyneside club depending on the future of Anthony Gordon, who is on the wishlist of some of the European giants.

City would ideally like to offload him on a permanent basis but the finances involved make it quite difficult. With Newcastle keen on signing him on loan, it will be interesting to see how things progress from here on.
