Manchester United unlikely to seal quick Marcus Rashford exit this summer

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United have reportedly suffered a blow in their attempt to offload misfit Marcus Rashford.

While Manchester United’s priority is to reinforce Ruben Amorim’s squad ahead of next season, the Red Devils are also looking to offload a few of their stars who are not a part of the Portuguese manager’s plans moving forward. Marcus Rasford is one of the names on that list, and they have been hoping to get him off their books as quickly as possible.

However, that is unlikely to happen because of Barcelona’s stance on his future. According to a report from Give Me Sport, Manchester United are likely to struggle to secure a quick exit for Rashford, as the Catalan giants are expected to enter discussions only in the latter stages of the transfer window.

The Manchester United academy graduate was one of their standout players a few seasons ago. However, things have gone downhill for him in recent years. Marcus Rashford struggled for form during the latter stages of Erik ten Hag’s tenure, and things went from bad to worse following the arrival of Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United pushing to offload Rashford

The Portuguese manager was not happy with Rashford’s effort and ended up dropping him from the squad. After being frozen out by Amorim, Marcus Rashford ended up joining Aston Villa for the second half of the 2024/25 season. While he did manage to revive himself under Unai Emery, he doesn’t have the best of relations with people at Old Trafford. As a result, he has no future at the Manchester-based club.

With Aston Villa also deciding against triggering the £40 million buy option, Manchester United were hoping to sanction his sale as quickly as possible. The fee raised from his departure could boost their overall budget and since he earns a massive £300,000-a-week wages, selling him will make room for multiple marquee signings.

Barcelona’s stance on signing Marcus Rashford

Barcelona are unlikely to get him off their books anytime soon. Rashford has his heart set on a move to Barcelona. While the Catalan giants are interested in signing him, they are planning to only hold talks with Manchester United United in the latter stages of the transfer window.

More importantly, they are not looking for a permanent deal. Barcelona want to secure his services on a loan if there’s scope to do any business in the final days of the window. They are well aware that Marcus Rashford is eager to join them and will wait, even if other top clubs show interest.

Playing the waiting game could work in the Catalan giants’ favour. If Manchester United fail to find a buyer, they may reluctantly agree to send him out on another loan. The La Liga club’s stance will certainly have a negative impact on United’s plans going forward.
